2026 · C 篇 2026 浙江省中考(全省统考)英语 · 阅读理解

Ayi is a 22-year-old girl from Kashgar, Xinjiang. She became well-known in a new season of the TV programme, which tells people how young people build their careers after leaving school. The programme followed 12 students who studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). As the youngest one, Ayi at first was unnoticed. By the end of the season, however, she surprised all with her great progress.

Ayi was not from a family of doctors. Her earliest interest in traditional medicine was awakened in her old town. In that place, people believed mutton soup cured illness faster than seeing doctors in hospital. When her grandmother died of illness, she realized good doctors are needed in this place. That was when she decided to become one to serve the people there.

In 2018, thanks to an education program for Xinjiang middle school students, Ayi had a chance to study in a Shenzhen high school. Three years later, she was accepted by Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.

However, the road to becoming a TCM doctor was never easy. For her, it’s especially difficult to understand ancient Chinese medical books. “Terms (术语), like yin and yang, were totally a new way of thinking. So I was always half a step behind my classmates,” Ayi said. To catch up, she put in more time and developed a study method of her own. Along with her schoolwork, Ayi got practical experience by taking part in more than 13 volunteer activities.

Ayi’s greatest dream is to return to Xinjiang and use her TCM knowledge to serve local people. “Back in Kashgar, I know many people don’t look for medical care, so I believe it’s deeply meaningful to use TCM, which is simple, cheap and works well,” Ayi said.

原卷配图

Motorcycle helmets are important. They protect riders from getting hurt. Last year, about 1872 riders in the US were saved because of helmet use. Effective helmets do more than protect people in accidents. They also help keep wind and small flying pieces off riders’ faces.

Before the 1970s, motorcycle helmets were made of plastic, offering little protection. Today, they are made of carbon-fibre (碳纤维), much lighter and stronger than before. Now, they are safer and more comfortable.

With the development of technology, modern helmets are smarter. Through Bluetooth connected speakers, riders can make telephone calls as they travel along the road. Cameras are also found in modern helmets. They can record what is happening ahead like the cameras in cars and they are easy to control through voice. The visors in certain helmets are able to change their colour. They become dark when the sun shines too brightly or when strong light from cars and trucks hit riders’ faces. In this way, riders can avoid strong light and see better.

These days, AI is changing people’s way of life. For motorcycle riders, AI can now be placed inside helmets to achieve greater safety. One such example is the iC-R smart helmet. This helmet can show the objects around the motorcycle. The riders don’t need to turn their heads or take their eyes off the road ahead to get a better sense of the road situation. The helmet can also receive all the important information, such as speed, direction and traffic accidents. When a rider decides where to go, the helmet shows different ways to get there on the inside of the visor. It can even warn the rider when necessary, like when a motorcycle gets too close to a car.

  1. 12.Why does the writer mention the number “1872” in Paragraph 1?

    • A.To show the fun of riding motorcycles.
    • B.To explain the influence of strong wind.
    • C.To tell the importance of wearing helmets.
    • D.To point out the danger of fast motorcycling.
  2. 13.What does the underlined word “They” in Paragraph 3 refer to?

    • A.Riders.
    • B.Cameras.
    • C.Speakers.
    • D.Visors.
  3. 14.What is special about the iC-R smart helmet?

    • A.It speeds up the motorcycle.
    • B.It sends warnings to other riders.
    • C.It offers riders traffic information.
    • D.It clears the flying pieces on the road.
  4. 15.What’s the main idea of the text?

    • A.Motorcycle riders are learning AI skills.
    • B.Motorcycle helmets with AI are in great need.
    • C.Motorcycling is becoming more and more popular.
    • D.Motorcycle helmets are getting smarter and safer.

12.答案:C

根据文章第1段前三句“Motorcycle helmets are important. They protect riders from getting hurt. Last year, about 1872 riders in the US were saved because of helmet use.”可推知,作者通过约1872名骑手因头盔获救的具体数据,直观体现头盔的保护价值,以此说明佩戴头盔的重要性。

13.答案:B

根据文章第3段第三、四句“Cameras are also found in modern helmets. They can record what is happening ahead like the cameras in cars and they are easy to control through voice.”可推知,划线词They指代前文中提到的、安装在现代头盔里的摄像头,这类摄像头可以记录前方发生的情况。

14.答案:C

根据文章第4段第六句“The helmet can also receive all the important information, such as speed, direction and traffic accidents.”

①Life is full of moments, but some are “special” and stay in our hearts forever. For example, the first time you rode a bike alone, a friend’s hug when you were sad, or in the evening talking with family. These moments aren’t always big, but they change how we feel about ourselves and the world.

②Special moments are like treasures. We don’t need to write them down—our hearts remember them. A teacher might praise a shy student’s drawing, making the child feel important. A parent could bake cookies with you on a rainy day, filling the kitchen with laughter. Even strangers can create them: a barista who knows your coffee order, or a neighbor who helps carry groceries. These small acts stay in our minds because they make us feel loved.

③Businesses also use special moments. A café might play soft music and serve warm cookies on cold days to make customers feel welcome. A bookstore could hold story time for kids every weekend, turning a visit into a happy memory. An ice-cream shop lets customers decorate their own cones (冰激凌蛋筒)—seeing a child smile while adding something is a moment everyone remembers.

④In the end, special moments are everywhere. They don’t need money or planning—just a little care. A kind word, a smile, or a small surprise can make life richer. So take time to enjoy these moments—they make life worth living.

Plains wanderers are small, rare birds that live in grasslands. Unlike most birds, female plains wanderers are larger and stronger than males. Females take the lead in protecting their nests and babies from animals like foxes, while males often sit on the eggs to keep them warm. These birds are hard to find because their feathers blend into the grass, making them look like part of the landscape. Sadly, their numbers have been dropping because people are taking over their grassland homes for farms and cities.

To save them, scientists are using AI. The key is the birds’ calls. Mother wanderers make soft sounds to talk to their chicks and warn about danger. These calls are quiet and easy to miss, but AI can hear them clearly. Scientists put microphones in the grasslands to record sounds all day and night. Then they put these recordings into a computer program. The AI learns to tell the wanderers’ calls apart from other noises, like the wind blowing or insects chirping. This helps scientists find where the mother birds are and how many chicks they have.

“AI helps us monitor these birds without bothering them,” says Dr. Lee, who leads the project. “We can find the most important areas for them and work to protect those places.” Once, the AI helped scientists find a hidden nest with three baby birds. Without AI, they might not have found it. Thanks to this technology, there is new hope for these rare birds, showing that AI can be a powerful tool in saving wildlife.

    • D.By analyzing calls from mother birds.
  4. 15.What is the passage mainly about?

    • A.Why plains wanderers are rare.

2024 · D 篇 2024 浙江省中考(全省统考)英语 · 阅读理解

Do you get in trouble for feeding your dog on food from dinner under the table? A new study suggests that by sharing “people food”, you might actually be helping to keep your pet healthy.

Many dogs are fed dry processed food. Science has shown that a diet (饮食) of processed food is not healthy for humans. Scientists from the University of Helsinki, in Finland, say this diet is not good for our pet dogs, either.

The scientists discovered that the food a dog might find in an owner’s home such as eggs, fish, meat and vegetables may be better than a diet of just dog food. This is because having different kinds of food leads to more variety (多样性) in microbes, which are little living things, too small to be seen with our eyes. There are millions of them in human and animal bodies. Some are bad for us, but many are good for us, and they play important roles in helping us digest (消化) food.

A total of 8,500 young pet dogs took part in the study. 4,500 of them were under 6 months old, and the rest were between 6 and 18 months old. The owners were asked about what food they had fed their pets and how often. When the dogs reached adulthood, their owners reported that about 20% of the dogs showed CE symptoms (慢性肠胃不适症状) such as weight loss. However, if dogs had been fed a mixed diet while young, it was 22% less possible for them to experience CE symptoms later in life.

Dr. Anna Hielm Bjorkman told The Times of London, “Dog food on sale is described as providing a complete diet. But what we show is that variety is important. Nobody would give 12 years of the same food to a child—why should a dog be different?”

  1. 12.According to the new study, dog owners ____.

    • A.must offer dry food to their dogs
    • B.can feed dogs on “people food”
    • C.had better buy more processed food
    • D.shouldn’t make food by themselves
  2. 13.Paragraph 3 mainly explains why ____.

    • A.dogs need different kinds of food
    • B.little living things stay in human bodies
    • C.scientists study dry processed food
    • D.people should keep dogs at home
  3. 14.How does the writer describe the study in Paragraph 4 to make it believable?

    • A.By using pictures.
    • B.By giving examples.
    • C.By telling stories.
    • D.By listing numbers.
  4. 15.Which part of a magazine is the passage probably taken from?

    • A.History.
    • B.Business.
    • C.Science.
    • D.Culture.

14.答案:D

推理判断题。根据“A total of 8,500 young pet dogs took part in the study.”,“about 20% of the dogs showed CE symptoms (慢性肠胃不适症状) such as weight loss”和“However, if dogs had been fed a mixed diet while young, it was 22% less possible for them to experience CE symptoms later in life.”

Cyclocross is cross-country bicycle racing. Racers spend only part of a race on their bikes because only part of the two-mile race is smooth. Other parts of the race have the challenge of obstacles (障碍). When racers reach them, they can ride over them, or pick up their bikes and run.

To be a top racer, you must dismount without slowing down at all. To do this, swing your right leg over the bike seat. At the same time, move the bike away from your body. This makes room for your right foot to hit the ground next to your left foot. As your right foot nears the ground, take your left foot away from the bike. Put both feet on the ground and start running!

As soon as you are running, you have to decide what to do with your bike. You may shoulder it or lift it. It’s important to practice both skills. Sometimes you need to run fast and jump over some obstacles. As your feet hit the ground, you reach down and catch the bottom of your bike. Lift up carefully and keep the bike on your right shoulder while you run. Sometimes you may lift your bike. You catch the top of your bike. Then you lift the bike high enough to get over the obstacles and carefully put the bike on the ground.

After you have carried your bike across an obstacle, you will need to remount. As soon as your bike is on the ground, push off with your left leg, swing your right leg over the bike seat, and move into riding position. Remounting can be the hardest skill of cyclocross. You can learn by watching someone who remounts well.

Cyclocross is a great way to stay active and have fun. However, it can be dangerous. Make sure that you are well prepared. Then, you will just need to go!

  1. 8.What can we learn about cyclocross from the text?

    • A.It’s a no-obstacle bike race.

2023 · D 篇 2023 杭州中考英语 · 阅读理解

We all enjoy being part of a group—there’s no better work than teamwork, right? Actually, I disagree. Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It’s a much better fit for me, and it has made me think about why teamwork can make our jobs harder rather than easier.

Personalities (个性) can make teamwork difficult. There’s often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person, whose ideas might not be the best, just the loudest. Just one difficult personality can make teamwork hard. Combine (结合) several challenging personality types, and it’s even harder.

Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had enough time to meet as a group. To successfully work as a team, you need time together—and lots of it.

A final reason teamwork is difficult is because there’s often no training on how to work on a team. You can’t just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren’t just given a ball and told to play. They practice, and they train.

Team can be hard but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn’t work, I don’t have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don’t have anyone to share it with to see if it really is a great idea. Don’t get me wrong—I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of the important decisions myself. But now I realize what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and how good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that’s useful information—because one day I might want to turn my ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.

  1. 12.Why did the writer choose to work from home on his own?

    • A.To keep himself busier.
    • B.To keep himself healthier.
    • C.To make his job easier.
    • D.To make his team harder.
  2. 13.Which of the following makes teamwork difficult?

    • A.Strong personality.
    • B.Lots of teamwork time.
    • C.Challenging ideas.
    • D.Clear team roles.
  3. 14.What can we learn from the last paragraph?

    • A.WE TEAM has hardly any advantages.
    • B.ME TEAM needs a lot of IT engineers.
    • C.ME TEAM has no challenges for the writer.
    • D.WE TEAM may be the writer’s choice one day.
  4. 15.What is the purpose of the text?

    • A.To show the advantages of teamwork.
    • B.To tell the importance of teamwork.
    • C.To introduce the influence of teamwork.
    • D.To explain the difficulties of teamwork.

12.答案:C

2022 · C 篇 2022 杭州中考英语 · 阅读理解

Can anyone be an astronaut?

Of course not. You don’t have to have a science degree but most astronauts do. Most of them are pilots too. Life in a spaceship is hard so you must have a healthy body and mind. You need to be easy-going, patient, and helpful to spend so much time in a small space with other people.

What’s the training like?

People have to train for a year to learn how to stay healthy and safe. They practice space walking and living in zero gravity(重力). They train in difficult conditions to learn how to solve problems and to work in a team. Everyday tasks like eating, washing and sleeping can be difficult on a spaceship. There is no running water so you have to wash with wet tissues: it’s hard to enjoy the dry food that astronauts have to eat. And to sleep you must cover your eyes because the sun rises every 90 minutes on the International Space Station. You also have to tie yourself to something so you don’t fly away!

What health problems do astronauts have?

Life in zero gravity causes changes to our bodies. Bones and muscles(肌肉) become thin and weak so you must do a lot of exercise in space to stay fit and to help the heart move blood around your body. Astronauts often get backache because you grow in space— up to 8 centimeters! It’s also common to have headaches and to feel sick, especially at the beginning. You must have vitamins to take the place of fresh fruit and vegetables. But you don’t have to put on sun cream because space suits protect your skin (皮肤).

Are you still interested?

  1. 23.What is a must for an astronaut?

    • A.A science degree.
    • B.A pilot’s license.
    • C.A healthy body and mind.
    • D.A weak character.
  2. 24.What must you do to prepare for a space trip?

    • A.Experience zero gravity.
    • B.Wash with running water.
    • C.Practice long walks.
    • D.Sleep with your eyes open.
  3. 25.Why do astronauts have to exercise in space?

    • A.To make their bones and muscles thinner.
    • B.To help the heart work well and keep fit.
    • C.To avoid backache and grow much taller.
    • D.To stop their skins from getting sunburned.
  4. 26.What is the text mainly about?

    • A.What we need to know to become an astronaut.
    • B.Why young people are interested in space trips?
    • C.What problems astronauts must solve in space.
    • D.Why we need to train hard before a space trip.

23.答案:C

细节题 根据第二段Life in a spaceship is hard so you must have a healthy body and mind.(宇宙飞船上的生活是很艰难的,所以你必须有一个健康的身心。 A选项是最有迷惑性的,文章说的是“但是大部分的宇航员需要有一个科学方面的学位”不是所有宇航员都需要,故A错。You don’t have to have a science degree but most astronauts do.

24.答案:A

细节题 根据第三段They practice space walking and living in zero gravity(重力).(他们训练太空行走和在失重状态下生活)可知选A。 根据第三段第三行There is no running water so you have to wash with wet tissues:(没有自来水,所以你只能用湿纸巾来洗东西)可知B错。 文中说的是practice space walking 而不是practice long walking 。故C选项错误。 根据And to sleep you must cover your eyes because the sun rises every 90 minutes on the International Space Station.(你睡觉的时候必须把眼睛盖住,因为在国际空间站没90分钟太阳就出山一次)可知D选项错误。

25.答案:B

根据Bones and muscles(肌肉) become thin and weak so you must do a lot of exercise in space to stay fit and to help the heart move blood around your body.(骨骼和肌肉会变得脆弱,所以你必须要在太空中做很多的锻炼来保持健康,同时让你的心脏能把血液供给全身) 故选B A选项的意思是目的是让骨骼和肌肉变得脆弱,显然不对。文章的意思是,如果你不锻炼的话,导致的结果是骨骼和积弱会变得脆弱。

26.答案:A

主旨大意题 根据文章的三个标题可知,选A最为恰当。 B选项是根据文章最后一句设问的,但是文章本身并不是围绕为什么年轻人会对太空旅行感兴趣展开的。 C选项是根据第三个黑标题下面的内容设问的,以偏概全,故C错; D选项是根据第二个黑标题下面的内容设问的,以偏概全,故D错;

2022 · D 篇 2022 杭州中考英语 · 阅读理解

There are many different ways to solve a problem. One way is to be creative. People often think creative thinking is just for artists and designers, but this is not true. Dr. Edward de Bono, an expert in creative thinking and problem solving, has shown the world that using creativity to solve problems is very useful in business and in our communities, and will continue to be so in the future.

One example of creative thinking is the solution to a parking problem in a town center. In the areas close to stores, people can only park for 20 minutes. There are parking meters where people pay to park in these areas. However, the problem is that many people leave their cars there for longer than 20 minutes. Dr. Edward de Bono’s solution is to make a rule that all cars parked in these areas must keep their headlights on. Of course, drivers will want to return to their cars before their car batteries (蓄电池) die.

According to Dr. de Bono, people will need to use creative thinking more often in the future. To help people think more creatively, he designed the “Six Thinking Hats” system(系统). The system helps people think about a problem in different ways in order to find a solution. In the system, there are six imaginary hats of different colors. Each hat symbolizes a different way of thinking. For example, the white hat helps people consider the facts. The black hat is the most logical(有逻辑的) and helps people consider why a possible solution may not work. So, next time you have a problem in your community, think about it creatively, from different perspectives, and see what ideas you have.

  1. 27.What is the topic of the text?

    • A.Being a creative artist in the community.
    • B.Doing business successfully in the future.
    • C.Asking experts for some useful advice.
    • D.Using creative thinking to solve problems.

    • B.The white hat helps people think about the facts.
    • C.The black hat has to do with people’s feelings.
    • D.Six hats of different shapes can be very helpful.

28.答案:C

主旨大意题;根据第二段的第一句话可知。此处举这个例子就是为了证明创造性思维是有用的。

29.答案:A

词义猜测题;根据第三段中的The system helps people think about a problem in different ways in order to find a solution.(这个系统有助于人们从不同的方面思考问题,从而找到解决方法)所以perspectives的意思和ways的意思最为接近。

30.答案:B

细节题; 根据第三段中To help people think more creatively, he designed the “Six Thinking Hats” system(系统).(为了帮助人们更有创造性地思考,他设计了“Six Thinking Hats”系统,而不是more quickly.故A错。 根据第三段中For example, the white hat helps people consider the facts.可知B正确; 根据第三段中The black hat is the most logical(有逻辑的) and helps people consider why a possible solution may not work.(黑色帽子是最有逻辑性的,并且它有助于人们思考为什么一个看似可能的解决方法是无效的),可知C错; D选项中不是Six hats of different shapes can be very helpful而是“Six Thinking Hats”系统很有效,故D错;

Flamenco is very popular in southern Spain. It begins with guitar music and clapping(击掌)and then dancers join the performance. Sometimes a woman dances alone and sometimes she dances with a man. The woman always wears a long, colorful dress. She moves her arms and hands slowly but her feet move in fast difficult steps. The man often wears black. Both dancers click their shoes on the floor when they dance around each other.

Cossack dances are from Russia and Ukraine. They are very energetic—some are more like gymnastics than dancing! Dancers have to be very fit because they jump very high and kick their legs up and down. They often jump over swords(剑). The movements are similar to traditional Cossack activities, for example, sword fighting and getting on and off horses.

Limbo dancing is first from West Africa but today it is an important part of celebrations in the Caribbean. Young people have to dance under a pole(杆). The pole is often on fire and the dancer mustn’t touch it! After a successful “limbo”, they put the pole lower and do it again. Some dancers can dance under a pole just twenty centimeters off the ground!

Mask(面具)dances are important for the Dogon people in Mali. Each village makes different masks. They are often huge and colorful. There are masks of people, monsters or local animals like crocodiles and monkeys. Mask dancers are always men and they dance to the sound of drums for hours after the death of a person in the village. Today, Dogon villagers also perform the dances for tourists.

When do children start to talk? If you ask a group of parents when this happened, most will say “around twelve months of age”. They will probably even remember what the children said. Many parents keep a diary of their child’s “first words”.

We can never predict what a first word is going to be. Often it’s the name for “mummy” or “daddy”, but it could just as easily be the word for an animal or a favorite toy. Everything depends on what has most caught the child’s attention. But one thing is certain: after the first word, others come quickly. By 18 months, most children have learned about 50 words. By two, the total has risen to around 200.

Early words are actually one-word sentences. One of the first features(特征)of language a child learns well is to control the rise and fall of the voice to make the difference between stating and questioning. In English, daddy with a high rising tone(声调)means “is that daddy?” Daddy with a high falling tone means “There’s daddy”. Of course, only very basic meanings can be communicated using tones alone. So it soon becomes necessary to learn some grammar.

In English, grammar means learning to put words in different orders. Children have to see that mummy push is different from push mummy. They start practising such changes at around 18 months. By two, they have learned the basic patterns of word order, and we hear them saying such things as man kick ball and where daddy go.

What are the parents doing all his time? They’re acting as teachers and they always have an active role to play in their child’s language learning.

    • A.About 6 months old.
    • B.About one year old.
    • C.About 18 months old.
    • D.About two years old.
  2. 13.Which might an English child say first when learning to talk?

A lot of animals travel from one place to another. We call this migration.

In Africa, large animals, like elephants and zebras, migrate to find food and water. They usually follow the same ways every year.

A lot of birds migrate to find food and better weather, too. They are usually birds that eat insects. They spend the summer in northern Europe, because there are lots of insects there. In the winter there aren't any insects, so the birds fly south to southern Europe and Africa,

Some insects migrate, too. In North America, millions of monarch butterflies fly south to spend the winter in Mexico, California and Florida, where it's warmer. They travel 50一65 km each day and they travel about 1,125 km,

Some fish migrate to breed(繁殖). Salmon(鲑鱼) can swim over 20,000 km in their life. They are born in rivers in Ireland, Scotland and other places in northern Europe. The young fish swim down the river to the sea and into the Atlantic Ocean. They live in the ocean until they are adults. Then they return to the river where they were born, They lay their eggs in the river and then they usually die. Salmon do this, because their eggs are safer in the river, Other fish can't eat them.

Arctic terns (北极燕鸥) travel the furthest when they migrate. They spend the summer in the Arctic, but when winter comes they fly to the Antarctic, because it's summer there. How would you feel if someone decided to take away your park? Well that's what's happening in my community. There's a park that some people want to turn into a golf course(高尔夫球场). Let me tell you why I think it's a bad idea.

First, a park is meant to be for the whole community. Not everyone likes golf, so not everyone will get to use the park. This isn't fair. A community park should have open spaces for everyone to use.

Second, to make way for the golf course, lots of playground equipment(设施)will have to be moved or knocked down, which is a waste of time and money. It's also a waste of perfectly good equipment, The swings, for example, will probably just end up as litter.

Third, what about giving young people something to do? Not all kids are crazy about golf. At the moment, the park has a skating place and a playground. These attract lots of kids from the community. If you turn the park into a golf course, these kids won't have anywhere to go and they won't have anything to do.

This means that they will stay at home and turn on a video game rather than get some exercise. It also means that they might be out on the street causing trouble. Wouldn't it be better to give them something to do at the park?

Finally, golf is expensive. Building a golf course and maintaining(维护) it costs a lot of money. Who is going to pay to maintain the golf course? What about those people who can't afford to join a golf club? That means that the golf course will only be available to people with lots of money.

Turning our park into a golf course is a bad idea. I suggest we have a community meeting before plans go any further.

  1. 12(1).Some people want to change the park into____.

    • A.a golf club

Smile Train is a charity (慈善团体) that helps the millions of children around the world, who suffer from a facial defect (缺陷). The defect happens when a baby's top lip or mouth doesn't form properly before birth. Eating and drinking is very difficult for these babies. The charity provides free operations, which give these children a new smile, and with it, new hope and a new beginning.

Children with the defect need all the help. Although many sufferers are accepted by their families, sadly, others are not. In some countries, children with this defect are often abandoned at birth because their parents feel ashamed of them or cannot afford the operations. The good news is that the operation is not difficult. It takes less than an hour and costs the family nothing. The charity raises money and finds the right medical volunteers to perform the operations.

A Smile Train doctor from the UK said, "Each child who has the operation is given a second chance at life. After years of staying at home, the children can finally go to school and be happy. Every year I perform hundreds of operations free of cost through Smile Train. Some of the stories I have heard are quite surprising. One newborn baby girl was found abandoned on a train. Luckily for her, she was found and adopted (收养) by a passenger. This lady then heard about Smile Train and brought the baby to our hospital. I did the operation and gave hope to the family. If you go shopping in any toy store, you can see clearly the different games and toys for boys and girls: there are a lot of pink toys on one side of the store for girls; and dark colored cars, guns, and soldiers for boys. Some big stores with toys may even have a pink floor for girls and a blue floor for boys. In fact, it is difficult to buy a toy for a girl that is not pink.

Some people think that too much pink is bad for girls. Sue Palmer, writer of Toxic Childhood, is very worried that most girls over the age of three are crazy about the color. According to some scientists, this happens for two reasons. Firstly, most companies offer too many products in pink. Also, many parents think their little daughter looks cute in pink. Sue Palmer says that girls at this age cannot make proper decisions by themselves, but the pink can affect (影响) the choices and the decisions they will make in the future.

Some parents are worried too-for example, Vanessa Holburn, thirty-two, who has two girls under the age of four. Their bedrooms are a sea of pink and Vanessa is not happy. "Pink says that you are soft and gentle. Blue says that you are strong and powerful. I want my daughters to be strong and powerful. I'm worried that pink will not help them with that," she says.

But not everyone thinks there's something wrong with pink. Grayson Turner is a father of three girls and he isn't worried at all. "People forget that things change all the time," he says. "My girls used to love pink when they were little, but as they get older, they change." Turner explains that his twelve-year-old daughter never wears pink clothes anymore. "This love of pink is just a fashion and all fashions change," he adds. "It's only since the 1940s that people have started dressing girls in pink-before that it was a color for boys."

Bananas are the perfect snack. Not only are they sweet and delicious, but they are easy to carry around, so you can take them anywhere. Best of all, bananas provide different things that the human body needs!

Bananas grow best in warm places that get lots of rain. They grow on plants that look like trees. The banana plant, however, is considered a herb rather than a tree because it doesn’t have a strong, woody stem (干、茎). The plants can grow as high as 30 feet. When they reach their full height, flowers grow out from the stem. These flowers produce bananas.

Two or three times each year, the plants produce fruit. The bananas grow together, which seem like "hands". A hand is made up of 10 to 20 bananas. Growers sometimes call bananas "fingers". Each bunch (丛) of bananas has about 15 hands, and so a whole bunch may have as many as 200 bananas and can weigh more than 100 pounds.

After about three months, the bananas are ready to be picked. At this point, they still aren't the sunny yellow color o: bananas. Farmers pick them when they’re green. That's how they're shipped to stores. They turn yellow along t he way and are ready to be sold.

If you love bananas, you've got a lot of company. Americans have been enjoying bananas since the first shipment arrived in the United States in 1876. Today

Class Afloat is a Canadian school on a tall ship! The ship is 210 feet long and 30 feet wide, and it can take up to sixty students. The classrooms are well-equipped and comfortable, and there’s even a library! It isn’t necessary to know anything about sailing — students can learn on the ship.

Not all the students are Canadian. There’s usually a mix of nationalities. This year, there are also students from Mexico, the US, Germany, and Turkey. There’s a mix of ages too. There are high school students sixteen to eighteen years old, and first-year college students.

The teachers design special study programs for each student. Because the school is a ship, you can do some exciting classes, for example, Marine Biology (studying the animals and plants in the sea) and History of Geography courses about the places you visit. Students also learn all about sailing!

Students don’t just study. They must also clean, cook and sail the ship. In their free time, students can rest, read, or watch a movie. In the evening, they relax with friends and have club meetings.

Every sixteen to twenty days, the ship stops in a port for three to six days. In port there’s lots for the students to do - homestays, camping trips, museum tours, cultural events, hiking etc. They also go boating and do other water sports. Parents can meet up with the students in one port every term.

Students also take part in two volunteer programs in Senegal and the Dominican Republic. They help local families in different ways, for example, with basic health matters or starting a business.
